The Safe Schools Partnership

This is a program that was created within The Whole Health Institute, Inc. in response to the devastating reality of what has taken place in our nation's schools -- shootings, killings, beatings, brutal abuse, and bullying. It doesn't need to be this way, there are answers and the solutions involve creating strong, dynamic communities in and around every school. It involves not only the students and the educators but members of the local police force, mental health workers, neighbors, families, and members of the local fire department. Incorporating these groups into social and educational events with one another builds bonds. When bonds are established, relationships exist and inside of those relationships, people have opportunity to recognize when something is wrong in a family and in a child, and in a student.

Interventions are much more successful before major catastrophes occur.

Our program walks any community through the process of setting up healthy situations. Schools should not be the stand alone buildings in any community.

Teachers need to feel the embrace of people in our culture and in our community as do the administrators. The professionals in the community can be of tremendous help before any sad incident occurs. We know all of this from experience. Our program demonstrates over and again that when the adults are fine, the kids are fine. When the kids are fine, their grades improve, and their attitudes and behaviors are healthy.

Let's save America by saving our schools and rescuing our youth from harm's way. It's all possible, it's all within reach. Just give us a call or send over an e-mail and we'll get you started.

Test My Teen
Perhaps there was an era in our culture when non prescribed drug use was casual and home grown but even then legalities were an issue. In today's world, where kids are so very overexposed to information and have such easy access to people and circumstances they are not sophisticated enough to appreciate the jeopardy of, the adults need to consider taking protective action.

Little children need their parents. Adolescents do as well but it is often not as obvious because their desire for independence is so prevalent. Fact is, kids of all ages need mom and dad. Research and experience regarding parenting and child-rearing practices make it very clear that the most successful way to produce a healthy human being is to provide a democratic atmosphere in a household. That means that everyone gets time to be heard.....and express their ideas, opinions, desires, and wants. It doesn't mean everyone gets what they want but people feel valued, all the people -- little ones and big ones. And yet, even in the most loving and healthy homes, kids are the recipients of activities in their social world where there is a lure of doing things that are troublesome. Peer pressure is enormous.

You can remove the pain of peer pressure for your kids to smoke tobacco, drink alcohol, or use illicit drugs by coordinating home drug testing with them. No doubt any teen reading this is rolling their eyes....and some parents as well. However, if you open the conversation within your family and let your kids know you want to remove temptation by doing random drug testing and include that they will be rewarded for every clean test they have, you'll get their attention. You should also communicate to them that when their peers ask them to participate in illegal activities, they can respond that they are home tested and don't want to blow their good deal of rewards and face any sort of unknown punishment -- that it's not worth it! No kidding, you can help your kids learn how to cope with the pressures with this technique.

Dr Carlin has become a spokesperson for the www.TestMyTeen.com group. Schools, communities, and parents, can find programs, materials, and test kits at their web site. Dr Carlin is available as a speaker and also a program director if you'd like to institute a drug free program in your home, your school, or your community.

In addition to drug testing, it is essential to tune in and be highly sensitive to our youth. They have enormous pressure. We did too at their age but it has additional components here in the 21st C. People get high to deal with stress, to escape this current reality. Adults believe they can handle it. Maybe. Kids believe it too but it is a well known fact that they cannot; their brains and their bodies are still developing and their experience base is small -- they are vulnerable. Alongside home drug testing, we help you learn ways to manage stress and teach your kids to do the same. We have great tools.
